About Phelps, New York
Nestled in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, the Village of Phelps is a small, friendly community of approximately 2100 residents. It is located in Ontario County, on State Highway 96, midway between Rochester and Syracuse. It is also served by the Thruway (I-90), exit 42 in the Town of Phelps, and exit 43 in Manchester.
Considered an ideal bedroom community for both Rochester and Syracuse, Phelps is primarily a rural community still unspoiled by heavy industry. The surrounding farms were responsible for canning industries, mills and farm implement industries in the Village's early growth. Modern-day Phelps offers scenic beauty with its tree lined streets and Flint Creek and Canandaigua Outlet running through the village. Redfield Common provides a public playground and athletic field for team sports.
The village has a modern sewer system, an excellent water supply, railroad and good public utilities, which gives us the opportunity for additional, responsible growth in the future. Phelps offers a full range of services, provided by its merchants, business enterprises, churches and other organizations, that enhance the economic, cultural and social ambitions of its citizens.
We are particularly proud of our Phelps Community Memorial Library, which is housed in the Phelps Community Center and offers its many patrons a great variety of services. We are also proud of the five churches that serve the community. We have an active and capable Fire Department, servicing a large area with state-of-the-art equipment, both in fighting fires and prompt ambulance service, with an additional 2 departments in the Town. |
