Primary Election Just Weeks Away; How, When and Where You Can Vote

Published May 22, 2025

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (05/20/2025) – In preparation for the June 24th Primary
Election in Ontario County, the Ontario County Board of Elections has begun
mailing Primary Election ballots to eligible military, overseas, permanently
disabled, absentee and early mail voter applicants. One Democratic Party and
eight Republican Party contests on the June 24th election ballot will decide which
candidates will appear on those political party lines on the General Election ballot
for November 4th.

Over 29,000 Ontario County voters enrolled in the Republican Party are eligible to
vote in the primary election contest between two candidates for the office of
County District Attorney. In addition to the District Attorney contest, Republican
Party voters in several towns will decide which candidates will represent their
party on the November election ballot for the following positions:
Farmington: Highway Superintendent (choose one of two candidates)
Gorham: Town Council Member (choose two of three candidates) and
Highway Superintendent (chose one of two candidates)
Naples: Town Council Member (choose two of three candidates)
Phelps: Town Supervisor (choose one of two candidates) and
Town Highway Superintendent (chose one of two candidates)
Richmond: Town Supervisor (chose one of two candidates)

The only Democratic Party primary in the county will be held in Geneva City
Wards 5 and 6. These Democratic Party voters will cast ballots to choose which
one of two candidates for Ontario County Supervisor (Wards 5 & 6) will appear on
the Democratic Party ballot line in November.

Eligible voters may cast their ballot by mail using either an Early Vote by Mail or
Absentee ballot, or in-person on Election Day, June 24th or during the Early Voting
period from June 14th through June 22nd.

In person voting will occur during nine days of Early Voting (June 14 – 22) or on
Election Day, Tuesday June 24th from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. More information
about the election, including sample ballots, is available at the Board of Elections
website: https://www.ontariocountyny.gov/elections

Voters choosing to vote in person during Election Day will cast their ballots at
their normal poll site on Tuesday June 24th from 6 AM to 9 PM. All forty-four
county poll sites will be open on Election Day.

To vote by mail, voters must submit either an Early Vote by Mail or an Absentee
Ballot application. Both application forms are available at the Board of Elections
website or online https://elections.ny.gov/request-ballot.  Applications must be
received at the Board no later than June 14th if sent by mail or online. Voters may
also apply in person at the Board of Elections through June 23rd. If you have
previously applied for a “permanent” absentee status, there is no need to submit
a new application.

ACCESSIBLE VOTING
Voters with a print disability or impairment that interferes with effective use of
printed material (including blindness, low vision, dyslexia, dysgraphia, learning
disabilities, and physical disabilities that limit writing abilities), may apply for a
ballot with accessible features using the Accessible Ballot Application portal at:
https://elections.ny.gov/request-ballot?aspxerrorpath=/home/accessible.

Voters can return their Early Mail, Absentee or Accessible ballot to the Board of
Elections in any of the following ways:
1. By using pre-paid return postage mail; ensure the ballot is mailed so it
receives a postmark no later than June 24th;
2. By bringing it to the Board of Elections Office before 9:00 pm on June 24th;
3. By bringing it to an early voting poll site between June 14th and June 22nd or
4. By bringing it to any open poll site by 9:00 pm on June 24th.

Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before June 24th. Voters returning their
ballots by mail should keep in mind the posted collection times on collection
boxes and at the Postal Service’s retail facilities as ballots entered after the last
posted collection time will not be postmarked until the following business day.
During Early Voting or on Primary Election Day, in person voters receive a paper
ballot to mark that is specific to their election district. After privately marking
their ballot, voters insert it into the voting machine where it is scanned and
tabulated. Voters are entitled to a replacement ballot if they make an error or
wish to change their choices before submitting their ballot into the voting
machine.
