TO APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE
Marriage Licenses are issued from 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Thursday and from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM on Fridays.
Getting married in New York State is a three-step process:
- Obtain a marriage license from a municipal clerk
- Have a ceremony (it may be religious or civil), at which the officiant and witnesses sign the license
- Return the signed marriage license to the municipal clerk.
A couple who intends to be married in New York State must apply in person for a marriage license to any town or city clerk in the state. The application for a license must be signed by both applicants in the presence of the town or city clerk. A representative cannot apply for the license on behalf of the applicant. This applies even if the representative has been given a Power of Attorney. Notarized marriage license affidavits signed by the applicants cannot be substituted for their personal appearance.
- Persons must be 18 years old without parental consent.
- The License fee is $40.00. The Town accepts either a personal check or cash.
- Please be aware, a license is valid for 60 days from the day it was issued by the Town Clerk.
- There is a 24-hour waiting period after the license is issued before the marriage can take place.
Anyone wishing to obtain a marriage license must have the following information with them when they come into the Clerk’s office:
- Certified Birth Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License or Non-Driver ID
- Social Security Card or know your number
- Documents from ALL previous divorces
- The cost of the license is $40.00. The Town accepts either a personal check or cash.
