No business or farm waste will be accepted.   Materials Accepted at the Event: Acids, Adhesives, Aerosols, Antifreeze, Batteries, Boric Acid, Brake Fluid, Cements, Charcoal Lighters, Chlorine, Cleaning Fluid, Degreasers, Disinfectants, Drain Cleaners, Dry Gas, Dyes, Epoxies, Fiberglass Resins, Flea Powders, Furniture Strippers, Hair Removers, Herbicides, Insect Repellents, Lacquers, Lubricants, Mothballs or Flakes, Motor Oil, Nail Polish Removers, Oven Cleaners, All Paints, Paint Removers, Paint Thinners, Permanent Solutions, Pesticides, Photo chemicals, Rat Poisons, Rug & Upholstery Cleaners, Rust Solvents, Wood Preservatives, Spot Removers, Tub and Tile Cleaners, Turpentine, Varnish, Weed Killers, Wood Polishes & Stains. Products containing mercury, LED lightbulbs, and florescent light tubes will also be accepted.   Materials NOT Accepted at the Event: Household Electronics (TVs –flat screen and CRTs, computer monitors, cell phones, DVD players, VCRs, etc.) Automobile and truck tires, Compressed Gas Cylinders, Explosives or Shock Sensitive Materials, Ammunition, Radioactive Wastes, Pathological Wastes, Infectious Waste, Medicines, PCB’s, Freon containing devices (i.e. Air conditioners, dehumidifiers).   Casella reserves the right to reject any waste unidentified, deemed unacceptable by the disposal form, or of excessive volume For information and other recycling events click HERE

What does my Highway Department do? Keep you safe: During the winter, crews are out keeping the roads free of snow. In the spring they work to keep the ditches clean to avoid flooding. During summer and fall you can find them paving, mowing, and trimming brush to keep signs and roads up to par. Road Maintenance: Your Highway Department typically takes care of potholes, ditches, culverts, and bridges. They also clean, sweep, mow, plow, pave, and much more. Liaisons: They work with other government officials to keep your roads safe and determine regulations related to transportation, such as weight limits for trucks, and traffic rules. In an Emergency: Rain or shine, day or night, Highway and DPW crews are ready when an emergency arises. From flooding, to hurricanes, winter storms, and even a traffic accident, they are there to keep roads open and allow EMS, Police, and the Fire Department to get those in need. Overall, the goal of the Highway Department is to create and maintain a safe, efficient, and reliable transportation network to support economic development and improve the quality of life for residents.

Town of Phelps Speed Limit Radar Program If you are interested in having the Town of Phelps place a speed limit radar sign in front of your house, please continue reading:  1)      This is not an enforcement activity.  The signs will not enforce speeding tickets to be issued.  We will share with local law enforcement any patterns that are discovered.  2)      This is a monitoring system, allowing the Town to use the data to potentially submit a request to the County/State to lower the speed limit, and to understand the existing traffic patterns.  3)      The signs will be in place for 7-10 days, then moved to new areas.  4)      At this time, this is only for Town-controlled roads.  County Roads will need a permit which we would apply for at the County level, and the sign are not to be used on the State Roads, i.e. Routes 14, 88, 96 and 488.  5)      Every area is different, these signs run only on solar power.  It will not be possible to place a sign in a heavily shaded area.  Please fill out the radar sign placement application if you would like to have the Town evaluate your area for use.  You can find the form here or on on our website under Marriage License Info and Town Forms.  Scroll down the page to access the form.   Email the completed application to tzoning2@phelpsny.com
